Shefali S. Kulkarni is the Social Media and Engagement Editor for Newsweek Magazine.

She is charged with restructuring and creating new social strategies for the newsroom, as well as expanding the magazine’s social reach. Prior to this role, Shefali was the Digital Producer for PRI’s The World radio program based in Boston. The global news program is a co-production of WGBH and BBC.

Specifically worked on the Global Nation desk for The World. The vertical focuses on the immigrant, refugee and asylum-seeking community in the US.

Shefali previously covered domestic health care policy at Kaiser Health News, a non-profit news service. Her stories were picked up by The Washington Post, and NPR’s Shots blog.

In the past, Shefali has written for Reuters, The Village Voice, Willamette Week, Dallas Morning News, The Daily Beast, Beloit Daily News, Washingtonian Magazine, and The Dalles Chronicle.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Beloit College and a Masters of Science in Digital Media from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.

She is a board member of the South Asian Journalists Association, an international, non-profit journalism organization.
